Last updated May 25, 2026. We try to keep this short and honest. MealSave is built for European households and follows GDPR principles.
In one paragraph
MealSave stores the information you give us (household preferences, pantry, meal plans) so we can plan groceries that save you money and reduce waste. We don't sell your data. We don't share it with supermarkets. You can export or delete your account at any time.
Who we are
MealSave is operated by MealSave, Amersfoort, Netherlands ("MealSave", "we", "us"). We are the data controller for the personal information described below. You can reach us at hello@mealsave.ai.
What we collect
- Account: email address and authentication identifiers.
- Household preferences: adults, children, diet, allergies, dislikes, budget, preferred stores, meal routine. These power your plans.
- Pantry: items you add, quantities, and what you mark as used.
- Meal plans & grocery lists: what was generated, checked off, and what you swapped.
- Usage analytics: anonymized product events (e.g. "plan generated", "pantry item added") to understand which features help households.
- Billing data: handled by Paddle, our Merchant of Record. We receive subscription status — not your card number.
How we use it
- Generate weekly meal plans tuned to your household.
- Personalize recommendations as your pantry and history grow.
- Estimate savings and surface low-stock items.
- Improve MealSave's UX based on aggregated usage patterns.
- Handle subscriptions, receipts, and customer support.
Legal bases: contract performance (running your account), legitimate interests (product improvement, fraud prevention), and consent where required (optional analytics).
AI meal optimization
Our planner uses AI models via the Lovable AI Gateway to suggest recipes and adapt to your preferences. We send the minimum context needed — typically diet, allergies, pantry contents, and budget. We do not send your email or any identifier that allows the model provider to recognize you personally.
Third parties we use
- Supabase — database, authentication, and file storage (EU region).
- Paddle — payments and tax. Paddle is the Merchant of Record for all MealSave subscriptions.
- PostHog — privacy-friendly product analytics (EU host).
- Lovable AI Gateway — routing to AI providers for meal generation.
Each provider is bound by a Data Processing Agreement and processes data only on our instructions.
Cookies & local storage
We use essential cookies and localStorage to keep you signed in and to remember small things like your onboarding draft and theme. Analytics uses a single anonymous identifier and can be turned off in Settings. We do not use advertising cookies.
Households with children
MealSave is designed for adults planning meals for their household, which may include children. We store the count of children (e.g. "2 kids") and dietary notes — never names, ages, or any direct identifier for a child. MealSave is not a service for users under 16.
Sharing & selling
We do not sell your personal data. We do not share your pantry, plans, or preferences with supermarkets, advertisers, or data brokers — ever.
Retention & deletion
Active accounts: we keep your data while you use MealSave. If you stop using the service, we keep your data for 24 months and then anonymize it. You can delete your account from Settings at any time, which removes your profile, pantry, plans, grocery lists, and savings history within 30 days.
Your rights
Under GDPR you can access, correct, export, restrict, or delete your data, and object to certain processing. Email hello@mealsave.ai and we'll respond within 30 days. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your national data protection authority (in the Netherlands: the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens).
Security
Data in transit is encrypted with TLS. Data at rest is encrypted by our infrastructure providers. Access is limited to a small team and audited. No system is perfect — if you spot something, please tell us.
Changes
We'll update this page when things change and note the date at the top. For meaningful changes, we'll also let you know by email.
